Islam gives us the most detailed view of the events that will take place in the HereAfter, than any other religion in the world today. It is every Muslims right to learn about the HereAfter, which is widely accessible today. Knowledge of what we know about the HereAfter comes from the Glorious Quran and Authentic Hadith.

If you are a non-Muslim viewing this information, I am very excited for you. You also have every right to know the truth. I am not going to tell you, that you are a bad person if you have not looked at this information. There are many practicing Muslims today who don’t have a clue about the Hereafter as well.

For non-Muslims – There may be words that I use or stuff that you many not understand. I really want to help you learn about the Hereafter (from an Islamic perspective). My best advice to you to help you clarify and really understand Islam is to start off by developing a basic understanding of what Islam is, Islamic terminology, and famous people in Islamic history during the time of the Prophet (saw).

Allah(swt) (aka God) is the only one who can judge us. Muslims should not judge muslims or non-muslims and vice versa. I myself, have been a muslim my entire life, but I haven’t even learned about the Hereafter in such detail, if at all until now. So without further said. Let us begin.

The information about the Hereafter, from the Islamic perspective, is based off the notes I took on Imam Anwar’s famous lecture on the ‘HereAfter’. (His lecture series is widely available and can be found online. He references authentic Hadith and the Quran.) As always this is a learning experience, so any comments and additional thoughts or details are appreciated.

The Minor Signs of the Day of Judgment

• 1st Sign – the message of Prophet Muhammad (saws)
  • Prophet Muhammad said: I was sent as close to the day of judgment as these two fingers together (BUKHARI)
    
  • Volume 6, Book 60, Number 458 (BUKHARI):
    Narrated Sahl bin Sad:

     

    I saw Allah’s Apostle pointing with his index and middle fingers, saying. “The time of my Advent and the Hour are like these two fingers.” The Great Catastrophe will overwhelm everything.

  • When Prophet Muhammad (saws) came to Medinah there was Light everywhere
• 2nd Sign – the death of the Prophet Muhammad (saws)
  • this was t he biggest disaster that afflicted the Ummah!
  • Medinah was dark when Prophet Muhammah (saws) passed away – the ppl of Medinah felt something was missing
• 3rd Sign – the opening of Jerusalem
  • Happened during time of Umar ibn al-Khattab
    • Our honor is only in Islam..not the clothes that we wear (14 patches in his) or the entourage around us
    • the people of Jerusalem couldn’t believe it and they were crying…they gave him the keys
• 4th Sign – a death that will eat you away like a Disease
  • happened after the opening of Jerusalem
  • more then 25,000 muslims died in that plague
  • this is one form of shahid (martyr)
  • Volume 1, Book 11, Number 688 (BUKHARI): Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, “Martyrs are those who die because of drowning, plague, an abdominal disease, or of being buried alive by a falling building.” And then he added, “If the people knew the Reward for the Zuhr prayer in its early time, they would race for it. If they knew the reward for the ‘Isha’ and the Fajr prayers in congregation, they would join them even if they had to crawl. If they knew the reward for the first row, they would draw lots for it.”
  • Volume 9, Book 86, Number 104 (BUKHARI):
    

    Narrated ‘Amir bin Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas:

    That he heard Usama bin Zaid speaking to Sa’d, saying, “Allah’s Apostle mentioned the plague and said, ‘It is a means of punishment with which some nations were punished and some of it has remained, and it appears now and then. So whoever hears that there is an outbreak of plague in some land, he should not go to that land, and if the plague breaks out in the land where one is already present, one should not run away from that land, escaping from the plague.”

• 5th Sign – abundance of wealth
  • a man will be handed 100 dinar and not be satisfied
  • this happened during Umar ibn AbdulAziz and Umar ibn-al Khattab
    • there was an abundance because Allah(swt) put baraqa (blessing) in their wealth..it was a blessing
  • another sign: a man will go out with gold and not find anyone who can accept it
    • tells us two things – ppl are not greedy, ppl are satisfied, content in their hearts
  • another sign: the earth will vomit gold and silver
  • another sign: river of euphrates..out of ever 100 that go their 99 will be dead (this is one of the minor signs that will come later)
  • [Sahih Muslim] a warning from Prophet Muhammad (pbuh): I was given the keys of the treasures of the earth.. my concern is that you would compete on this world and that would destroy you…I do not fear poverty, we are not out of resources. the problem is oppression, and unfair distribution
  • Volume 4, Book 53, Number 385 (BUKHARI):
    

    Narrated ‘Amr bin ‘Auf Al-Ansari:

    “Rejoice and hope for what will please you! By Allah, I am not afraid of your poverty but I am afraid that you will lead a life of luxury as past nations did, whereupon you will compete with each other for it, as they competed for it, and it will destroy you as it destroyed them.”

  • Today one of the reasons why Allah(swt) may not give us (blessing) baraqah in our rizk (wealth) is because we are not following shariah of business

• 6th Sign – Times of Trials and Tribulations
  • Do good deeds before the times of trials and tribulations come like the darkness of the night. The problems that will come will be like pieces of the darkest nights (spreading).
    • a man will be a believer at morning, but a disbeliever at night
    • a man will be a disbeliever at morning but a believer at night
    • there will be people who sell their religion for desires of this world
  • People will sell their religion for a goat.
  • People will act as thought they are forms without any minds or conscious
  • There will be times when everything will be in the gray area. It is best for you in this time period to withdraw and stay away from this darkness/uncertainty. One should have the least involvement, stay home, if someone comes into your house don’t fight them.
  • This talks about times when things are so obscure that it will be hard to distinguish truth/falsehood.
  • Direction of East – Horn of Shatan comes out – Fitna -not completly 100% but known as primary area of fitna …some of the biggest trials started from the East..
    • ex. political unrest, and deviation from religion, mongolians fitnah ..came from the east
    • ex. Hagog and Magog come from the East
  • This Sign actually occured in Islamic History. And it may happen again, differently in the future. Hadith of the Fitnah – Trial that will move like the waves of the ocean. The door will be broken and never be locked again. Umar ibn al-Khattab was the door between Fitna and this Ummah. During time of Umar ibn al-Khattab there were no trials because their was expansion, stability, security, tranquility. After he passed away problems started.Uthman ibn Affan was assassinated done by muslims. A disunity of  the Ummah occured – it was fitnah. they surrounded his house telling him to give up Khalafa.
    • Prophet Muhammad (saws) said that Uthman ibn Affan will die as a shahid. (This prophecy came true).
    • Problems also persisted in the Ummah during Ali ibn abu talib time and with the death of Hasan and Husain.
    • • their fitnah will continue until Dajjal comes..when one of their generation leaves..another will come up. they end up fighting amongst themseleves or others fight them. extremism comes up with another in a different generation
      • most evil of ppl…they took the ayat talking about non-believers and applied them to the Muslims ..they are a people that very easily at accuse Muslims of disbelief in Islam
      • ext Fitnah – Death of Hasan and Husain
• 7th Sign – False Prophets
  • Day of judgment will not come until 30 False Prophets have arisen..who end up have a sizable following who become well-known (sect/group)
  • the first two were around during the time of the Prophet (saws)
  • they use deceptive ways to attract people …played on nationalism,etc.
