Love and its place in our Deen:
1) We can either love the world (aka dunya)
2) We can love Allah(swt) & his Messenger Prophet Muhammad (saws)
If love for Allah(swt) and the Prophet Muhammad (saws) is strong, then we can continue to revive our deen and our Iman.
Allah(swt) says in Surat At-Tawbah verse 9.24:
“Say, [O Muhammad], “If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your wives, your relatives, wealth which you have obtained, commerce wherein you fear decline, and dwellings with which you are pleased are more beloved to you than Allah and His Messenger and jihad in His cause, then wait until Allah executes His command. And Allah does not guide the defiantly disobedient people.”
There’s a great deal of wisdom in this limitation. If we don’t love Prophet Muhammad(saws) more than others than we risk the possibility of submitting to the influence of others. If you find fear in this verse, know that there is hope. For the Love of Prophet Muhammad(saws) = Iman. Prophet Muhammad (saws) was sent as a mercy to all mankind. If you love him, then this will distinguish you from the disbelievers and it distinguishes one muslim from another.
“When is the Hour?” is a very popular question. It was asked during the time of the Prophet. There was a famous conversation between the Prophet (saws) and a bedouin. The Prophet (saws) replied “What have you prepared for it?”. It is important to pray 5 times a day, pay zakat, fast during Ramadan and to have Love for Allah(swt) and the Prophet (saws). Prophet Muhammad (saws) said “you will be with the one you love” on that day. The reward is Jannat and His Blessed Company.
So it can seem that our salvation does indeed depend quite entirely with our love of Prophet Muhammad(saws).
Allah(swt) says in Surat Al-Imran Chapter 3 of the Quran, Verse 31:
“Say, [O Muhammad], “If you should love Allah , then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.”
Iman means to affirm something. Loving Prophet Muhammad(saws) is affirming Iman. Anything that the Prophet (saws) loves is a part of this deen.
